They are also called sonogram techs, diagnostic medical sonographers (or just sonographers) and ultrasound technologists. Regardless of name, they all have the same primary job description, which is to carry out diagnostic ultrasound techniques on patients. Even though many work as generalists there are specialties within the field, for example in pediatrics and cardiology. Most practice in Brooklyn AL clinics, hospitals, private practices or outpatient diagnostic imaging centers. Common daily work functions of a sonogram tech can consist of:

  • Keeping records of patient medical histories and specifics of each procedure
  • Counseling patients by explaining the procedures and answering questions
  • Readying the ultrasound machines for testing and then sterilizing and recalibrating them
  • Moving patients to treatment rooms and making them comfortable
  • Using equipment while limiting patient exposure to sound waves

Sonographers must routinely evaluate the performance and safety of their equipment. They also must adhere to a high ethical standard and code of conduct as medical practitioners. So as to sustain that level of professionalism and remain up to date with medical knowledge, they are mandated to complete continuing education training on an ongoing basis.

Sonogram Tech Degree Programs Available

Brooklyn AL ultrasound technician performing sonographySonogram technician enrollees have the option to acquire either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree will normally require about 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will require more time at as long as four years to finalize. Another alternative for individuals who have already earned a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have received a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a related health field, you can enroll in a certificate program that will require just 12 to 18 months to complete. One thing to bear in mind is that almost all ultrasound technician programs do have a clinical training element as a portion of their course of study. It can often be fulfilled by taking part in an internship program which many colleges set up through Brooklyn AL hospitals and clinics. Once you have graduated from one of the certificate or degree programs, you will then need to comply with the licensing or certification requirements in Alabama or whichever state you elect to practice in.

Online Ultrasound Technician Degrees

student attending online sonography class in Brooklyn ALAs earlier discussed, almost all sonogram technician schools have a practical component to their programs. So although you can earn a degree or certificate online, a substantial portion of the training will be either held in an on campus lab or at an approved off campus facility. Clinical training can typically be satisfied through an internship at a local Brooklyn AL hospital, outpatient clinic or family practice. But the remainder of the classes and training may be attended online in your Brooklyn home. This is particularly beneficial for those students that keep working while obtaining their degrees. In addition online schools are often less costly than on-campus options. Costs for commuting and study materials may be decreased as well. But just as with every ultrasound tech college you are reviewing, make sure that the online program you choose is accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially significant for licensing, certification and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn away from the classroom in the comfort of your own home, then an online school may be the ideal option for you.

What to Ask Ultrasound Technician Colleges

Questions to ask Brooklyn AL ultrasound technician schoolsAfter you have determined which certificate or degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the procedure of assessing and comparing ultrasound technician schools. You will first probably want to decide whether you will access classes online or commute to a school campus in the Brooklyn AL area. Certainly location will be critical if you decide on the latter, and the cost of tuition undoubtedly will be an important qualification also. But there are additional variables that you should also take into consideration, such as if the schools are accredited and if they offer internship programs. Therefore in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can make your ultimate selection, following are some questions that you may want to ask each ultrasound tech program before deciding.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Schools Accredited? A large number of ultrasound tech schools have acquired some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone a detailed review of their teachers and educational materials. If the program is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial aid and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Brooklyn AL health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Find out if the ultrasound technician schools you are reviewing have partnerships with Brooklyn AL clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a great means to get hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can help graduates and students establish professional connections in the Brooklyn medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that first job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the ultrasound tech programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Alabama healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they select will need to be within driving distance of their Brooklyn AL home. Those who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram tech program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the ultrasound tech  program you finally pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Brooklyn AL area, make certain that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.

    Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are an American professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Barclays Center. They are one of two NBA teams located in New York City; the other is the New York Knicks. The team was established in 1967 as a charter franchise of the NBA's rival league, the American Basketball Association (ABA). They played in New Jersey as the New Jersey Americans during their first season, before moving to Long Island in 1968 and changing their name to the New York Nets. During this time, the Nets won two ABA championships (in 1974 and 1976). In 1976, the ABA merged with the NBA, and the Nets were absorbed into the NBA along with three other ABA teams (the San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, and Denver Nuggets, all of whom remain in the league today).

In 1977, the team returned to New Jersey and played as the New Jersey Nets from 1977 to 2012. During this time, the Nets won two consecutive Eastern Conference championships (in the 2001–02 and 2002–03 seasons), but failed to win a league title. In the summer of 2012, the team moved to Barclays Center, and took its current geographic name.[11]

The Brooklyn Nets were founded in 1967 and initially played in Teaneck, New Jersey, as the New Jersey Americans. In its early years, the team led a nomadic existence, moving to Long Island in 1968 and playing in various arenas there as the New York Nets.[12]
