But the rest of the classes and training may be attended online in your Galena home. This is especially convenient for those individuals that continue working while getting their degrees. Plus online programs are frequently more affordable than on campus options. Expenditures for commuting and study materials can be reduced as well. But similarly as with every sonography college you are reviewing, make sure that the online program you enroll in is accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially important for licensing, certification and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn away from the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then online classes could be the right choice for you.

Questions to Ask Sonogram Tech Schools

Questions to ask Galena AK ultrasound technician schoolsAfter you have decided on which certificate or degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of reviewing and comparing ultrasound technician schools. You may first want to decide whether you would rather attend classes online or commute to a college campus in the Galena AK area. Naturally location will be significant if you select the latter, and the price of tuition undoubtedly will be an initial qualification as well. But there are other variables that you should also take into consideration, for example if the colleges are accredited and if they offer internship programs. Therefore in order to perform your due diligence so that you can make your final selection, below are some questions that you may want to ask each sonographer college before deciding.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Schools Accredited? Most ultrasound technician schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still important to confirm that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through an extensive review of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Galena AK health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the sonogram technician colleges you are evaluating have associations with Galena AK clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to get hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can assist graduates and students develop professional connections in the Galena medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without help. Ask if the ultrasound tech programs you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Alaska healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Galena AK residence. Individuals who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of person that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are reviewing what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram technician program as well.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the ultrasound tech  school you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Galena AK area, check that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.

    Galena, Alaska

Galena (/ɡəˈliːnə/) (Notaalee Denh in Koyukon) is a city in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. At the 2010 census the population was 470, with a 2016 estimate of 488 inhabitants. Galena was established in 1918, and a military airfield was built adjacent to the city during World War II. The city was incorporated in 1971.

The Koyukon Athabascans had seasonal camps in the area and moved as the wild game migrated. In the summer many families floated on rafts to the Yukon River to fish for salmon. There were 12 summer fish camps located on the Yukon River between the Koyukuk River and the Nowitna River. Galena was established in 1918 near an Athabascan fish camp called Henry's Point. It became a supply and point for nearby lead ore mines that opened in 1918 and 1919.[5]

In 1941 and 1942, during World War II,[5] a military air field was built adjacent to the civilian airport, and the two facilities shared the runway and flight line facilities. This air field was designated Galena Air Force Station shortly after the split of the United States Air Force from the United States Army, which occurred as a result of the National Security Act of 1947. During the 1950s, the construction of additional military facilities at Galena and the nearby Campion Air Force Station, in support of Galena's mission as a forward operating base under the auspices of the 5072nd Air Base Group, headquartered at Elmendorf Air Force Base, near Anchorage, provided improvements to the airport and the local infrastructure, causing economic growth for the area.[citation needed]
