Kaby Lake

Kaby Lake is an Intel codename for a processor microarchitecture Intel announced on August 30, 2016.[6] Like the preceding Skylake, Kaby Lake is produced using a 14 nanometer manufacturing process technology.[7] Breaking with Intel's previous "tick–tock" manufacturing and design model, Kaby Lake represents the optimized step of the newer "process-architecture-optimization" model.[8] Kaby Lake began shipping to manufacturers and OEMs in the second quarter of 2016,[9][10] and mobile chips have started shipping while Kaby Lake (desktop) chips were officially launched in January 2017.

In August 2017, Intel announced Kaby Lake Refresh (Kaby Lake R) marketed as the 8th generation mobile CPUs, breaking the long cycle where architectures matched the corresponding generations of CPUs.[11][12] Skylake was anticipated to be succeeded by the 10 nanometer Cannon Lake, but it was announced in July 2015 that Cannon Lake had been delayed until the second half of 2017.[needs update][13][14] In the meantime, Intel released a fourth 14 nm generation on October 5, 2017, named Coffee Lake.

Kaby Lake is the first Intel platform to lack official driver support for versions of Windows older than Windows 10.[15] Furthermore, Windows Update is disabled under Windows 8.1 and earlier, although an enthusiast-created modification was released that disabled the check and allowed it to continue to work on the platform.[16]

Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico

Tierra Amarilla is Spanish for "Yellow Soil". The name refers to clay deposits found in the Chama River Valley and used by Native American peoples.[3]:352–353[4]Tewa and Navajo toponyms for the area also refer to the yellow clay.[3]:352–353

There is evidence of 5000 years of habitation in the Chama River Valley including pueblo sites south of Abiquiu. The area served as a trade route for peoples in the present-day Four Corners region and the Rio Grande Valley. Navajos later used the valley as a staging area for raids on Spanish settlements along the Rio Grande. Written accounts of the Tierra Amarilla locality by pathfinding Spanish friars in 1776 described it as suitable for pastoral and agricultural use. The route taken by the friars from Santa Fe to California became the Spanish Trail. During the Californian Gold Rush the area became a staging point for westward fortune seekers.[5]

The Tierra Amarilla Grant was created in 1832 by the Mexican government for Manuel Martinez and settlers from Abiquiu.[3]:352–353[4] The land grant encompassed a more general area than the contemporary community known as Tierra Amarilla.[3]:352–353 The grant holders were unable to maintain a permanent settlement due to "raids by Utes, Navajos and Jicarilla Apaches" until early in the 1860s.[4] In 1860 the United States Congress confirmed the land grant as a private grant, rather than a community grant, due to mistranslated and concealed documents.[6] Although a land patent for the grant required the completion of a geographical survey before issuance, some of Manuel Martinez' heirs began to sell the land to Anglo speculators. In 1880 Thomas Catron sold some of the grant to the Denver and Rio Grande Railway for the construction of their San Juan line and a service center at Chama. By 1883 Catron had consolidated the deeds he held for the whole of the grant sans the original villages and their associated fields. In 1950, the descendants of the original grant holder's court petitions to reclaim communal land were rebuked.[6]

Vadito, New Mexico

As of the census of 2010,[2] there were 270 people, 108 households, and 74 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 300.0 people per square mile (108.6/km²). There were 133 housing units at an average density of 147.8 per square mile (60.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 60.0% White, 0.7% Native American, 28.5% from other races, and 10.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 92.2% of the population.

There were 108 households out of which 31.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them,[3] 47.2% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of lone individuals with almost half, 12.0%, being 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.01. The percentage of renters was only 15.7%, with the rest of the householders owning their own homes. 18.8% of the available housing was vacant.

In the CDP, the population was spread out with 26.3% aged 19 and under, 22.2% from 20 to 39, 29.6% from 40 to 59, and 24.4% who were 60 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. The median age for females was 3.5 years older than males. For every 100 females, there were 97.1 males.

Willard, New Mexico

Willard is a village in Torrance County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 240 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village is not experiencing the same extreme growth that towns farther north in the state are. A wind farm has recently been constructed upon the mesa just south of the town. It provides power for about 25,000 homes in Arizona.[1]

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 240 people, 96 households, and 60 families residing in the village. The population density was 310.5 people per square mile (120.3/km²). There were 115 housing units at an average density of 148.8 per square mile (57.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 50.42% White, 0.83% African American, 1.25% Native American, 45.83% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 83.33% of the population.

There were 96 households out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 35.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.28.

Socorro, New Mexico

Socorro is a city in Socorro County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is in the Rio Grande Valley at an elevation of 4,579 feet (1,396 m). In 2012 the population was 8,906. It is the county seat of Socorro County.[3] Socorro is located 74 miles (119 km) south of Albuquerque and 146 miles (235 km) north of Las Cruces.

In June 1598, Juan de Oñate led a group of Spanish settlers through the Jornada del Muerto, an inhospitable patch of desert that ends just south of the present-day city of Socorro. As the Spaniards emerged from the desert, Piro Indians of the pueblo of Teypana gave them food and water. Therefore, the Spaniards renamed this pueblo Socorro, which means "help" or "aid". Later, the name "Socorro" would be applied to the nearby Piro pueblo of Pilabó.[4]

Nuestra Señora de Perpetuo Socorro, the first Catholic mission in the area, was probably established c. 1626. Fray Agustín de Vetancurt would later write that around 600 people lived in the area during this period.[5] Mines in the Socorro mountains were opened by 1626.[6]

Tijeras, New Mexico

The Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site is located in Tijeras at 35° 04′ 30″ N, 106° 23′ 01.″ The site was occupied by Ancestral Pueblo people from about 1313 CE to 1425 CE. In the first phase of its occupation the Tijeras Pueblo had about 200 rooms in terraced buildings arranged in a "U" shape with a large ceremonial Kiva at the center. The pueblo was partially abandoned after about 1360 but rebuilding began about 1390, although the pueblo never regained its previous size. It was abandoned about 1425. The reasons for the abandonment of the pueblo are unknown, although it may have been because of drought and water shortages.[3]

Tijeras was part of the Carnuel land grant, created in 1763 to defend Albuquerque from the raids of Comanche, Kiowa, and Plains Apache American Indians. The village is located in Tijeras Canyon, a strategic and natural corridor between the nomadic Indians of the Great Plains and the Spanish settlements in the Rio Grande valley. Nineteen men[5] some with families, comprised the first settlers at Carnuel. They were mostly from the lower castas of Spanish society, "coyotes" and genizaros (Indians who lived among the Spanish and had adopted some elements of Hispanic culture). For the coyotes and genizaros the attraction to settle in the Tijeras area was the opportunity to own land through the land grant from the New Mexican government.[6]

Apache raiders killed several people in the area and the survivors abandoned the land grant area in 1771. The Tijeras area was resettled in 1819 by descendants of the original settlers plus additional landless mestizos. By that time New Mexico had made peace with the Comanche and the threat to the eastern frontiers of the colony had decreased, making the settlement feasible. The genizaro heritage continued to influence land and water usage rights in the Carnuel land grant into the 21st century.[7][8]

Vado, New Mexico

Vado is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 3,194 at the 2010 census.[2] The ZIP code for Vado is 88072, its area code is 575, and it is part of the Las Cruces Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Vado is located in southeastern Doña Ana County at 32°7′45″N 106°39′4″W / 32.12917°N 106.65111°W / 32.12917; -106.65111 (32.129233, -106.651006).[4] It is in the Mesilla Valley, on the east side of the Rio Grande. Interstate 10 forms the eastern edge of the CDP, with access from Exit 155. I-10 leads north 17 miles (27 km) to Las Cruces, the county seat, and south 32 miles (51 km) to El Paso, Texas.

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 3,003 people, 776 households, and 709 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,013.8 people per square mile (391.7/km²). There were 814 housing units at an average density of 274.8 per square mile (106.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 53.98% White, 1.03% African American, 1.50% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 39.93% from other races, and 3.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 95.00% of the population.

Williamsburg, New Mexico

Williamsburg is a village in Sierra County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 527 at the 2000 census. The village, though small, is located conveniently adjacent to Truth or Consequences, and has essentially become a suburb. Though the town is experiencing moderate growth now, especially along I-25, in the near future there is a high possibility of its becoming a booming bedroom community for lakesiders from Elephant Butte.

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 527 people, 264 households, and 153 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,096.2 people per square mile (423.9/km2). There were 345 housing units at an average density of 717.6 per square mile (277.5/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 91.84% White, 1.71% African American, 0.76% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 1.90% from other races, and 3.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.09% of the population.

There were 264 households out of which 15.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.9% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.7% were non-families. 35.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.00 and the average family size was 2.51.

Solano, New Mexico

Solano is an unincorporated community in Harding County, New Mexico, founded in 1907. It lies along NM 39 and the tracks of a spur of the Southern Pacific Railroad[1] about half-way between Roy and Mosquero. The post office was opened in 1907.[1][2]

Solano began in 1907 when F. M. Hughes built his house and a store.[3] It was named after a local mail carrier, Cipriano Solano.[2] Solano was the largest town in Harding County for a time, and even published a local newspaper, The Solano Herald, but when the coal mines in Dawson shut down in the 1950s, its importance waned.[3]

Timberon, New Mexico

Timberon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Otero County, New Mexico and is within the Sacramento Mountains at the southern edge of the Lincoln National Forest, directly north of the Fort Bliss. The population was 309 at the 2000 census.

Timberon has a 9-hole golf course, as well as a lodge, a pool, a church, an airstrip and a volunteer fire department. The residents consider it a retirement and resort community. Children are bussed into Cloudcroft for public school.[1]

Timberon is located at 32°37′54″N 105°41′32″W / 32.63167°N 105.69222°W / 32.63167; -105.69222 (32.631675, -105.692254).[2] Timberon is located in a forested valley, known as Sacramento Canyon, on the eastern slope of the Sacramento Mountains. The Sacramento Creek,[3] an intermittent creek, flows southeast through the valley. The community extends up several crosscutting canyons including Arkansas Canyon, Graveyard Canyon and Carrisa Canyon. The elevation in Timberton varies from 6.900 to 7,200 feet. Jefferies Peak at 8,501 feet (2,591 m) is located directly to the east of the valley, and Culp Peak at 7,280 feet (2,219 m) lies to the west.
