Are the Sonogram Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of ultrasound tech colleges have earned some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still important to verify that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through an extensive review of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many New Town MA employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Offered? Ask if the ultrasound tech colleges you are interested in have associations with New Town MA clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific manner to get practical experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the sonographer schools you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Massachusetts healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their New Town MA residence. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the schools you are researching what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the ultrasound technician program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the sonographer  school you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the New Town MA area, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.
