Naturally location will be significant if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification also. So in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, below are some questions that you need ask each ultrasound tech program prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Colleges Accredited? Most sonogram technician schools have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone an extensive evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Arcadia NE health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the sonogram tech schools you are interested in have partnerships with Arcadia NE clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to receive practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional connections in the Arcadia medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in a new field can be difficult without help. Find out if the ultrasound tech schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Nebraska healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the school they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their Arcadia NE home. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are reviewing what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the sonogram technician program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the sonographer  program you finally pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Arcadia NE area, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.
