    Leyden, New York

    The Town of Leyden gave up much of its territory to form new towns such as the Towns of Watson (1821) and Lewis (1852). Leyden was also partitioned to form the Towns of Brownville (Jefferson County in 1802) and Boonville (Oneida County in 1805), and part of the Town of Wilna (Jefferson County in 1813). The racial makeup of the town was 99.05% White, 0.22% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.17% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.17% of the population.

    There were 676 households out of which 37.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 23.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
