You may first want to decide whether you will access classes online or travel to a school campus in the Ardmore TN area. Of course location will be important if you choose the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification as well. But there are additional variables that you should also take into account, for example if the schools are accredited and if they provide internships. So in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, following are a few questions that you may want to ask each sonography program prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of ultrasound technician schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a rigorous assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Ardmore TN employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the sonogram technician programs you are interested in have partnerships with Ardmore TN clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific way to get hands on training in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Find out if the ultrasound tech schools you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Tennessee healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the school they select will have to be within commuting distance of their Ardmore TN home. Individuals who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a smaller class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram tech program as well.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the ultrasound tech  program you finally select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Ardmore TN area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family obligations.
