So it’s extremely important that you research each school in order to assess and compare your choices. But exactly where does one start? A number of potential students will start by searching for schools that are within travelling distance of their homes and then by comparing tuition. Certainly location and cost must be taken into account when making a decision, but there are additional critical factors as well. Sonogram Tech Job Description

Chase LA ultrasound tech with patientThere are various acceptable titles for ultrasound techs (technicians). They are also referred to as sonogram techs, diagnostic medical sonographers (or just sonographers) and ultrasound technologists. Regardless of name, they all have the same primary job description, which is to implement diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients. While a number of techs work as generalists there are specialties within the profession, for example in pediatrics and cardiology. The majority work in Chase LA clinics, hospitals, outpatient diagnostic imaging centers and even private practices. Common daily work duties of a sonogram tech can consist of:

  • Preserving records of patient case histories and details of each procedure
  • Counseling patients by explaining the procedures and answering questions
  • Preparing the ultrasound machines for testing and then cleaning and recalibrating them
  • Transferring patients to treatment rooms and making them comfortable
  • Operating equipment while minimizing patient exposure to sound waves
  • Evaluating results and identifying necessity for supplemental testing

Sonographers must routinely assess the safety and performance of their machines. They also are held to a high professional standard and code of conduct as health practitioners. So as to sustain that degree of professionalism and stay current with medical knowledge, they are mandated to complete continuing education programs on an ongoing basis.

Ultrasound Tech Degrees Available

Chase LA ultrasound technician performing sonographySonogram technician students have the choice to acquire either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree will usually involve about 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will require more time at as long as 4 years to finalize. Another alternative for those who have previously received a college degree is a post graduate certificate program. If you have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in any major or an Associate Degree in a relevant medical field, you can instead choose a certificate program that will require just 12 to 18 months to complete. One thing to keep in mind is that almost all sonographer schools do have a practical training component as part of their course of study. It often may be satisfied by entering into an internship program which many schools organize through Chase LA hospitals and clinics. After you have graduated from one of the certificate or degree programs, you will then need to fulfill the certification or licensing prerequisites in Louisiana or whichever state you choose to practice in.

Sonographer Online Colleges

student attending online sonography class in Chase LAAs previously mentioned, almost all ultrasound tech schools have a practical component to their programs. So although you can earn a certificate or degree online, a significant portion of the training will be either carried out in an on campus laboratory or at an approved off-campus medical care provider. Practical training can typically be fulfilled by means of an internship at a local Chase LA hospital, outpatient clinic or private practice. However the balance of the training and classes may be attended online in your Chase home. This is particularly convenient for those students that keep working while earning their degrees. In addition online schools are frequently less costly than on campus options. Expenditures for study materials and commuting may be lessened also. But just as with every sonographer school you are reviewing, verify that the online program you select is accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Accreditation is especially significant for licensing, certification and finding employment (more on accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to attend classes away from the classroom in the comfort of your own home, then online classes may be the ideal choice for you.

Questions to Ask Ultrasound Tech Programs

Questions to ask Chase LA ultrasound technician schoolsAs soon as you have decided on which certificate or degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of evaluating and comparing sonogram technician colleges. You will first probably want to decide whether you will access classes online or travel to a college campus in the Chase LA area. Clearly location will be critical if you select the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification as well. But there are other factors that you should also take into account, for instance if the colleges are accredited and if they provide internship programs. So in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, below are some questions that you may want to ask each sonographer school prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of sonogram tech schools have obtained some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone an extensive assessment of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Chase LA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Ask if the ultrasound tech schools you are interested in have relationships with Chase LA hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific way to receive practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Chase healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that initial job in a new profession can be challenging without support. Find out if the sonographer schools you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Louisiana healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the school they select will have to be within commuting distance of their Chase LA home. Those who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit far in the rear of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the schools you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the ultrasound technician program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the sonographer  school you finally pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Chase LA area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

    Belle Chasse, Louisiana

Belle Chasse is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, United States, on the West Bank of the Mississippi River. Belle Chasse is part of the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area. The population was 12,679 at the 2010 census.[1]

There is little consensus regarding the origin of the name Belle Chasse. In French, belle chasse literally means "beautiful hunting." It is widely believed that it was so named due to the richness of wildlife which the initial French colonists observed when they settled in the region. Others say that Belle Chasse was named after a Colonel Joseph D. Bellechasse, who lived in New Orleans around the late 18th and early 19th century. Alternatively, it was named after the plantation of Deville de Goutin Bellechasse.[4]

The Confederate statesman Judah P. Benjamin was the most famous owner of the Belle Chasse plantation. After falling into decay and abandonment by the 1930s, the landmark plantation house was demolished in 1960.[5] The bell was salvaged and today is in front of the Belle Chasse Public Library.
