You may first want to choose whether you would rather access classes online or commute to a college campus in the Annandale NJ area. Clearly location will be critical if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification also. So in order to perform your due diligence so that you can arrive at your ultimate selection, below are several questions that you need ask each sonography college prior to making a decision.

Are the Ultrasound Tech Programs Accredited? Most sonogram technician schools have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a rigorous review of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Annandale NJ employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the sonogram technician colleges you are evaluating have associations with Annandale NJ clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to get hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that first job in a new profession can be difficult without assistance. Find out if the ultrasound tech schools you are considering have job placement programs and what their success rates are. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will need to be within travelling distance of their Annandale NJ home. Individuals who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with a few of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the ultrasound tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the ultrasound tech  program you finally choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Annandale NJ area, make sure that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.
