One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). So if you are dedicated enough to learn away from the classroom in the convenience of your own home, then an online school may be the right choice for you.

You may first want to decide whether you would rather access classes online or commute to a school campus in the Great Meadows NJ area. Clearly location will be important if you decide on the latter, and the cost of tuition no doubt will be an important qualification also. But there are additional factors that you must also take into consideration, for example if the schools are accredited and if they sponsor internship programs. So in order to complete your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, following are a few questions that you need ask each ultrasound tech college before deciding.

Are the Ultrasound Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of ultrasound tech colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs earning accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through an extensive evaluation of their instructors and course materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Great Meadows NJ health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the sonogram technician colleges you are interested in have associations with Great Meadows NJ clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific means to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can assist graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Great Meadows medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new profession can be difficult without support. Find out if the sonographer programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with New Jersey healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the college they pick will need to be within travelling distance of their Great Meadows NJ home. Those who have chosen to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the schools you are looking at what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the ultrasound technician program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the sonographer  college you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Great Meadows NJ area, verify that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family obligations.
