You may first want to decide whether you would rather access classes online or commute to a school campus in the South Hackensack NJ area. Certainly location will be critical if you decide on the latter, and the price of tuition no doubt will be an initial qualification also. But there are additional factors that you must also take into account, for instance if the programs are accredited and if they sponsor internship programs. So in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can make your final selection, below are several questions that you need ask each sonography program before deciding.

Are the Ultrasound Technician Colleges Accredited? A large number of ultrasound technician schools have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still imperative to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRC-DMS have gone through a rigorous review of their teachers and educational materials. If the program is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous South Hackensack NJ health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Offered? Inquire if the ultrasound technician programs you are reviewing have associations with South Hackensack NJ hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to receive practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional connections in the South Hackensack healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will probably wish to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in a new profession can be difficult without help. Ask if the ultrasound tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with New Jersey healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they select will need to be within driving distance of their South Hackensack NJ residence. Those who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the colleges you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the sonogram tech program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the sonographer  program you ultimately pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the South Hackensack NJ area, make certain that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family obligations.
