Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Certainly location will be critical if you choose the latter, and the price of tuition undoubtedly will be an initial qualifier also. So in order to carry out your due diligence so that you can arrive at your final selection, following are several questions that you need ask each ultrasound tech program before deciding.

Are the Sonogram Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of sonogram tech colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still important to verify that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of sonography is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRC-DMS have undergone a rigorous review of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Repton AL health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Ask if the ultrasound technician colleges you are reviewing have associations with Repton AL hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific way to receive hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Repton medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will undoubtedly want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in a new profession can be challenging without help. Ask if the sonographer schools you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Alabama healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the college they choose will need to be within commuting distance of their Repton AL residence. Students who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the sort of person that prefers to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the colleges you are researching what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the ultrasound tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the sonographer  program you finally select can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Repton AL area, confirm that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.
